Blue Monday.... supposedly the saddest day of the year 🙄.
OK, January's are tough. It's grey and cold, Christmas is well an truly over (may not be a bad thing for some), and payday feels like a lifetime away, but that doesn’t mean the day has to be all doom and gloom.
So here are three things you can do now to feel a bit better about life and work (and anything else that may be going on today 🤔):
1. Acknowledge What’s Going Well (because something is!)
Don't overcomplicate this—what’s one thing that’s not a total disaster right now? It could be a project moving forward, a decent chat with a colleague, or even just a really good cup of coffee (or tea) - anything. Finding one bright spot doesn’t fix everything, but it helps shift the focus.
Try this: Jot down a small win from last week or something you’re looking forward to.
2. Reconnect with Someone
Reach out to someone you like or admire (personally or professionally) to break up the monotony and give you a fresh perspective. Your in the right place to do it and LinkedIn have made it so easy!
Try this: Text a friend or send a quick LinkedIn message to a colleague. No big agenda required - just connect.
3. Move Around a Bit
I know, everyone says it, but moving your body really does help. You don’t need a gym session! I just ran down the stairs to catch the postman before he could leave a card in the door and I feel like a new woman already 🥵! Just stretch, walk around, or pace while you complain about your to-do list. It will clear your head and boost your steps for the day - your small win for the day right there.
Try this: Stand up right now and stretch. Yes, now. It doesn't matter whose looking!
Blue Monday isn’t magic —it’s just a name someone slapped on an otherwise normal day. So just do one thing to feel a bit better and get through it. You’ve made it through worse Mondays I'm sure!
